A project usually has to come with a calculation report: what was checked, how, and against which clause. A finite element model checks a great deal, but the report it produces is written for the software, not for the person reading it — even when the checks behind it are thorough. Projektam parasti jānāk kopā ar aprēķina atskaiti: kas pārbaudīts, kā un pēc kura normas punkta. There is also the case where the package is on the desk but the module for that particular check was never bought, so a local check cannot be done in it at all. And the case where it is simply too much machinery for one element. We use finite element software and specialised tools every day — prestressed concrete, foundations, 3D analysis, detailed element checks. This platform stands beside them, not instead of them. It began as the tool we wanted for ourselves when the report mattered as much as the number. SNCD grew out of about twenty years of daily practice in structural design. The tools began as scripts written to get our own work done: to check a model before issuing it, to avoid running the same calculation by hand for the fourth time, to produce a report a reviewer could actually follow. You will get tools built by people who know what a review comment looks like at eleven at night, which assumptions quietly break a calculation, and why a report has to show its working rather than only a verdict. The split is a legal one. In substance SNCD is that office continued by other means: the place where twenty years of accumulated knowledge is turned into something other engineers can use, rather than staying in one office's drawers.
